July 10 - Carl Orff; Arlo Guthrie (The Musical Birthday Series; 4th Annual Cycle)

Previous posts for July 10th are found here: Carl Orff (2019), (2020), and Jimmy McHugh; Jerry Herman (2021)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Carl Orff (10 July 1895 – 29 March 1982), though prolific, is largely remembered for his enduringly popular Carmina Burana, and his pedagogical Schulwerk.

Turn, Turn, Turn

In Carmina Burana, which dwarfs

The other achievement of Orff’s,

We learn Fate is vicious,

And Fortune capricious,

As life ineluctably morphs.

Family Matters

The question Arlo asked was should he

Follow in the steps of Woody.

Arlo had that one big hit,

But managed, on the strength of it,

To keep his place upon the stage

Until he reached a ripe old age.

And, all in all, was glad he had

The model of his famous dad.
