Frederick Fennell (2 July 1914 – 7 December 2004) was an internationally recognized conductor, especially of wind bands

Three Limericks for Fennell

He recruited nearly 40 players in May 1952 for this, explaining, “I chose the best students in the school, the best solo performers and the best ensemble players. He became one of America's most-recorded conductors. " -- adapted from Wikipedia

By choosing his own personnel,

The band leader Frederic Fennell

Was able to found

An ensemble renowned

For recordings that sold very well.

In Fennell's New Times Times obituary, colleague Jerry F. Junkin was quoted as saying "He was arguably the most famous band conductor since John Philips Sousa." -- Wikipedia

If someone is asking you,  “Whose a

Band leader other than Sousa?”

You might very well

Mention Frederick Fenell

Whose band was a lollapalooza.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Desiring expanded repertoire, he wrote to nearly 400 composers around the world commissioning appropriate compositions for the new group. -- Wikipedia

When he looked at the music on hand

He found it both noisy and bland,

And he knew his assignment

Was to add some refinement

To the rep of the symphonic band.
