Marianna Auenbrugger (19 July 1759 – 25 August 1782) was an Austrian pianist and composer.

Where Are My Manners?

Mariana Auenbrugger, who

Studied with both Hayden and Salieri,

In spite of having studied with these two,

Wrote music that was pretty ordinary.

Although her piano playing was respected –

(Renowned composers wrote sonatas for her) -

The works she wrote herself have been neglected,

(But play them through, you’ll see why we ignore her).

Marianna Auenbrugger died,

Alas, when she was only twenty-three,

And I should put my snarky streak aside,

When writing on a talent such as she.
