Catalyst; or, Uncompromising Comprimario

By the time of his retirement, Anthony had performed 2,928 times with the company, over fifty-six seasons. -- Wikipedia

Anthony (Charles) retired from the Met

As he neared his 3000th appearance;

For fifty-six years he performed each vignette

With often-remarked perseverance.

He played tiny parts that were needed to get

A plot moving on with coherence,

And the principal stars were becalmed on the set

Until his propitious appearance.
