Mahleriana: A Triptych of Limericks on the Two Rhyme Sounds

The Master Speaks

“A symphony must be like the world, it must contain everything” - Gustav Mahler

Said Mahler, when writing a score,

“I’ve got a whole world to explore.

My work isn’t ended

Until I’ve transcended,

So I’m adding a hundred bars more.”

Breaking the Lease

It’s a difficult thing to ignore

When the Mahler fanatics next door

Have a playlist intended

To show off their splendid

New speakers by shaking the floor.

Matters of Taste

Said a man who found Mahler a bore,

"When I listen that long, it’s a chore.

The effort expended

Just can’t be defended,

In spite of the bustle and roar."
