Christopher Parkening (b. 14 December 1947) is a classical guitarist who abruptly retired from performance at about thirty to pursue teaching and non-musical interests.
Career Moves
"At 30, I achieved my goal. I stopped playing the guitar, found a ranch with a beautiful trout stream in Montana, and moved there from Southern California." – Christopher Parkening
"Well, there were only two things I knew how to do: one was fly-fish for trout, and the other was playing the guitar and the latter seemed the better option to pursue. Somehow a career in fly-fishing for the Lord just didn’t seem the way to go." – Christopher Parkening
Today as the season is darkening
It’s the birthday of Christopher Parkening.
Though widely acclaimed and admired,
At the height of his career he retired
To focus on ranching and trout,
Which was far more relaxing, no doubt.
Though he tempered retirement a smidgeon
With teaching and old-time religion.
