Elliott Carter (11 December 1908 – 5 November 2012) was an American composer of exhilarating works of great complexity.
Limerick in Six: For Carter
If folks are confused and afraid
When the music by Carter is played,
They might come to blows
With the cadre of those
(Though it might be a pose)
Who attend to his scores undismayed.
