Alone Together

When you’re famous as half of a duo,

You’re never quite sure how much you owe

Your success to some skills of your own,

Or if you could do it alone.

Would audiences call you a phony

If you went on the stage with no crony?

François-André Danican Philidor (7 September 1726 – 31 August 1795) was one of the founders of the French opéra comique style and one of the best chess players of his time.

In Which We Shamelessly Pun

Philidor had great success

At writing notes and playing chess.

His chessboard brought him world renown,

His music never bored the Town.
