+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Franz Xaver Biebl (1 September 1906 – 2 October 2001) was a German choir director and composer of choral music.

Capitalist Thoughts on Biebl’s “Ave Maria”

It was published in the U.S. by Hinshaw Music in 1992, and became one of the publisher's best-selling items, the four versions selling over 670,000 copies between 1992 and 2016. --- Wikipedia, s.v. “”Ave Maria (Biebl)”

Franz Biebl was a humble man,

   A man of local fame,

But one successful opus can

   Immortalize one’s name.

At first he had imagined it

  For seven-part male voices,

But after it became a hit

   He sanctioned other choices.

His publishers have sold the thing

   In thousands of octavos;

I hope old Biebl got the bling

   And not just fleeting bravos.
