The Long and Short of It

How ignoble it would be

If we

Forgot to fête Pierre Henry!

And yet,

The world is likely to forget

To fête

The man behind musique concrète.

Sidney Homer (9 December 1864 – 10 July 1953) was an American composer, primarily of songs.  He was the husband of the great contralto Louise Homer, and the uncle and teacher of composer Samuel Barber.

The Works of Homer

Sidney Homer spent his life

In the shadow of his wife.

Later, his most famous feature

Was his role as Barber’s teacher.

Homer, thus, is seldom known

For achievements of his own,

Eclipsed in death’s eternal harbor

By his wife and Samuel Barber.
