Reynaldo Hahn (9 August 1874 – 28 January 1947) was a composer, conductor, and salon singer.  A few of his delicate songs are still in the active repertoire.

Teen Idol

Following the success of his song "Si mes vers avaient des ailes" (If my verses had wings), written when he was aged 14, he became a prominent member of fin de siècle French society. – Wikipedia

The composer was only fourteen

When he burst on the musical scene.

His new mélodie

Was the toast of Paris,

Which was nice for the young Argentine.

Inspiration

Their affair between Proust and Hahn lasted for little more than two years, but it evolved into a lifetime's close friendship. Proust wrote, "Everything I have ever done has always been thanks to Reynaldo". – adapted from Wikipedia

Reynaldo Hahn was introduced

   To France’s social crème,

And so encountered Marcel Proust,

    Who also hung with them.

They gave a love affair a run,

    And Proust said thereupon,

“Everything I’ve ever done

    I owe to Monsieur Hahn.”
