Giuseppe Verdi (9 or 10 October 1813 – 27 January 1901) was the most important composer of Italian opera in the mid-nineteenth century.

Herr Wagner arose and declared he

Would always resent what he shared; he

Considered with scorn

That the year he was born

Was the same as that sham, Signor Verdi.

Having made the mistake of his life

When he strangled his innocent his wife,

Otello, less macho,

Implored for “un bacio,”

Then skewered himself with his knife.

Falstaff


Old Falstaff was pleasant and portly,

In seduction his manners were courtly,

But comeuppance arrives

From the two merry wives,

And the final fugue follows up shortly.
