Anonymous ( ? - ? ). On some days there are few musicians of any prominence celebrating their birthdays, and so for several years I have taken time on October 4th to celebrate that very prolific master, "Anonymous"
Disputed Authorship
“Anonymous’, or “authorship unknown”
Composed a corpus which in time has grown;
But scholars think there must have been a clone,
There’s too much there for one “Anon” alone.

Sure Thing
“Anonymous” has never lost his touch,
Though some would say she's written much too much.
But if you need a song, or chant, and such,
Anon. can be relied on in a clutch.

When music has no name upon it,
A cataloguer may “anon” it.
In fact, when attributions gone it
Also happens with a sonnet.
