William Schwenck Gilbert (18 November 1836 – 29 May 1911) was an English dramatist, librettist,  poet and illustrator best known for his collaboration with Arthur Sullivan, which produced fourteen comic operas. -- Wikipedia

The characters rally,

And in the finale

Loose ends are tied up, more or less.

It creates such a lexical clatter

That it’s off to the races

For character basses,

And the sense, on the whole, doesn’t matter.
