Stephen Foster (4 July 1826 – 13 January 1864) was an American songwriter known primarily for his parlor and minstrel music. Many of his songs have become American standards.

Concerning Stephen Foster;
It wouldn’t be fair
To call him an impostor,
But his Southern facade,
(Which makes some people cranky),
Is admittedly odd
From this full-blooded Yankee.
