Herbert Howells (17 October 1892 – 23 February 1983) was an English composer whose choral music is still an important part of the repertoire.
What Sweeter Musick
When the choir employs vocal growls,
Or grunting, or yelling, or yowls,
Or stomping, or shrieks,
Or extended techniques, –
You will know that it isn’t by Howells.
