Hugo Wolf (13 March 1860 – 22 February 1903) was one of the greatest composers of German art song.

Hiya Hugo!

Though he had several bursts of extraordinary productivity, particularly in 1888 and 1889, depression frequently interrupted his creative periods, and his last composition was written in 1898, before he suffered a mental collapse caused by syphilis. – Wikipedia

I’d like to think no singers overlooks

The songs that Wolf composed in Lieder books.

The songs in these anthologies are legion,

Conveniently arranged by poet or region.

He wrote them out in frenzies of fertility,

In spite of signs of mental instability;

And singers who perform them should be ready

For passionate extremes, because it’s said he

Composed them when emotionally unsteady.
