Gee Whiz

During his later years, he preferred to use the Catalan and Italian pronunciation of his surname – IPA: [dʒinasˈteɾa], with an initial soft 'G' like that of English 'George' – rather than with a Spanish 'J' sound (IPA: [xinasˈteɾa]). -- Wikipedia

His European blood was mixed,

   He hailed from Buenos Aires,

And so his name was caught betwixt,

  And pronunciation varies.

It’s more complex than it appears

   Regardless of its spelling,

The G was, in his later years,

A soft G as in “gelling”.

I’ll spell it out in IPA

   As he himself preferred it,

And then you’ll know what you should say

No matter how you’ve heard it.

Though in his youth perhaps he tried

   To go by [xinasˈteɾa]

It seems quite clear before he died

   He favored [dʒinasˈteɾa].
