Lullaby

The most famous part of Goldberg's life is the portion which involved the composition of a set of variations by Bach to help the insomniac Count Keyserling pass sleepless nights. The accuracy of the story recounted by Forkel has often been questioned. - adapted from Wikipedia

Johann Gottlieb Goldberg’s name

Has a single claim to fame –

He eased Count Keyserling’s frustrations

By playing keyboard variations.

The story is piquant and curious,

And yet, alas, it’s likely spurious.

Envoi

Grab some fame if you can get it,

But if you lose it, don’t regret it.

Luther Henderson (14 March 1919 – 29 July 2003) was an American arranger, composer, orchestrator, and pianist best known for his contributions to Broadway musicals.

Pit Work

The ever-present danger

For a musical arranger

Is having a routine

Of work behind the scene.

A composer or an actor

Might be the benefactor

Of curtain call ovations,

And the jubilant sensations

Of public recognition.

And meanwhile, the musician

Who scored, arranged and led it

Gets barely any credit.
