Stephen Sondheim (22 March 1930 – 26 November 2021) was an American composer and lyricist.
Three Memorial Limericks for Sondheim
(1)
Although we know everyone dies,
At Sondheim’s November demise,
His fans found relief
In expressions of grief
That were way beyond normal goodbyes.
(2)
There isn’t a way we can brighten
Our grief for this theater titan,
Except to suppose
That his songs and his shows
Will always be there to delight in.
(3)
Commemorative Sondheim revues
Will strive to do more than amuse;
They’ll be trauma and zingers
From earnest young singers
As emphatic emoting ensues.
