Pierre Boulez (26 March 1925 – 5 January 2016) was one of the foremost composers and conductors of his time.

By some he is thought too cerebral,
For others he’s bracing and febrile.
While the first group is apt to complain he
Was much too abstract and too brainy,
The second accepts their assignment
And esteems his exquisite refinement.
And you’re either against or your for,
It’s a case not of “either”, but “or”.
